"Fertile" Dripping Bodies Series. Acrylic on Masonite. 2001.
Abstract paintings
I use vibrant acrylic paints to explore the abstraction of pigmentation, and its relationship to other colours through mixing paints directly with my fingers to create richly textured, intuitive designs. This method removes the barrier of the brush and allows me to connect intimately with each canvas—feeling the paint, its temperature, resistance, and flow beneath my fingertips. Common themes in my work are female embodiment, fertility, spatial abstracts and mood.
I press, swipe, smear, and layer, building complexity through touch. Although some paintings do involve brushwork, the focus is always on hyperpigmentation, vibrant colours, and vividness. Some series work involves the notion of melting or dripping, with other pieces are colour inversions, landscapes, or playful interpretations of colour theories.

Work in progress session
I don't have an art studio. Instead, I paint mostly on the floor or occasionally with a canvas propped up against an old sofa. Arguably, this is not the most ergonomic method of working, but I have always created my visual media in this way and it allows me to glimpse my work-in-progress while doing ordinary mundane tasks, and view the paint in different lights. It often takes me awhile to make decisions on what to paint next, as I start and stop regularly, as though I am figuring out a puzzle or a math problem. Below is the finished product of my painting titled "I'm Running Out" which makes reference to how I created this with limited supplies during the pandemic, as was literally running out of paint.

My dripping bodies series is essentially what started my artistic creative practice in visual arts. These paintings all explore the female form, either bending, crouching, or posing in various ways. The pregnancy series in a diptych (two paintings together) but the matching painting is in my friend's living room and I don't have a photo of it. I painted the dripping series between the ages of sixteen and nineteen.
